The Credits Roll Sooner Than You Think
By prisrob
Sue Mengers, one of the biggest, loudest, best super agent in Hollywood, is born again as Bette Midler on Broadway. What we have is the script from John Logan that tells the story of Sue Mengers.
Sue and her family left Germany as Hitler was rising to power. They moved to Utica, New York. Her father became a salesman and things did't workout well. Sue and her mother moved to Brooklyn. Sue started acting school but discovered everyone was more beautiful than she was. She became a receptionist at a talent agency and worked her way up to becoming the most loved and successful super agent. We meet her as she is waiting for her first star who has just signed with another agency to give her a call, Barbra Streisand.
Sue tells her story as she is lounging on her luxurious sofa. The year 1981, Sue is just startling to lose her valued and valuable clients. She smokes cigarettes and marijuana at the same time, drinks booze and eats chocolates. She gives us a running commentary on the parties she gives, the people she knows, her history with the stars, her Five Rules As An Agent, and how to make it in this business. Her parties are legendary, deals are made, stars are born, at her soires. And, now Barbra has left, and we can feel Sue's distress. She has a party to give, and Barbra has not called as promised. The glory days are fading, and the credits roll sooner than you think.
This is a delicious script, one that Sue Mengers would approve. Bette Midler is receiving rave reviews for her one woman show. The life and times of Sue Menger, a little bit of rust is showing as time goes by. The writer, John Lgan, only 51, has an illustrious career, and beside this geat Broadway play, he premiered in 2013, Peter and Alice, directed by Michael Grandage and starring Judi Dench and Ben Whishaw opened in London at the Noel Coward Theatre on March 25, 2013.

A good read
By Rickie McCandless
I saw the play on Broadway so it was easy to imagine Bette Midler saying the lines but if you like Bette Midler, I think you'll like this "Brassy" quick read.

Have I Got An Agent for You!
By brandiosity
Reading the play with Bette Middler in mind makes it almost seem like you're watching the performance on stage. Very enjoyable, and much less expensive than a ticket to the Broadway show.
