Sexy, Sex Scenes.

To Tempt and Angel by Patricia Grasso grabbed my attention from the beginning with its colorful characters and interesting plot. Robert draws me in right away with his charm. He’s obviously a rogue who needs a woman to tame him. Angelica is the perfect mix of hard and soft, and she has a sweet touch of innocence that makes her a great heroine. The mystery of what happened to Angelica’s formerly wealthy, aristocratic family sets the pace for the novel, and piques the reader’s interest right from the start. You want to find out exactly what caused her family’s downfall, and also what exactly her plans for getting even entail. The sexual tension between Robert and Angelica is palpable, and it extends throughout the entire novel. When those two are in a room, you can feel the tension through the pages! The sex scenes are also HOT! HOT! HOT! It’s been awhile since I’ve read a good sex scene, and Ms. Grasso definitely accomplishes that in this book!

I enjoyed reading this book, and the only complaints I have are that the plot is a little out there. Her obsession with getting even with the men who she feels are completely responsible for her father’s downfall is a little annoying at times. I mean, her father was a drunk, so he was partially responsible for his own issues. She chooses to put all the blame on these other wealthy families, and focus on revenge, rather than bringing her family back to what it once was. Also, the fact that all of these men are willing to jump on her crazy train and help her get revenge against families who have never done anything to them is a little strange to me. However, it is fiction, and although her fixation on revenge at times makes her unlikable, overall it is a good read that I definitely recommend to lovers of historical romance.

I give To Tempt and Angel a FOUR out of FIVE stars.

I love Patricia Grasso. One of my all-time favorite reads is by this author (it also happens to be the third book in this trilogy). So when I was in the mood for a historical romance, I decided to reach for a Patricia Grasso book. Imagine my delight when I saw that one that I hadn’t read yet was available as a free read at Amazon.

This series follows the three Douglas sisters. They’re the daughters of an impoverished earl and they’ve grown up far from the Ton doing whatever the needed to do to make ends meet. In To Tempt an Angel, while at street fair, Angelica meets Robert when she cheats Robert out of a good chunk of money and he’s smitten. And so begins our romp through London.

I adored Robert… well, outside of the wanting to make Angelica his mistress instead of marrying her. But, he’s pretty up front about what he wants when it comes to Angelica. Granted he did hide his title from her early on, but when one is chased because of their name. But he supported her from the day they met and just wanted to make her life easier. Who doesn’t want that kind of man? I mean, he doesn’t want to run her life or completely take over. He wants her to be the best she can be, but be there to hold her up if she needs it… and she will.

Now Angelica on the other hand was a little harder for me to like. I did enjoy watching her trying to fit into the Ton after growing up on the outskirts. But I wasn’t real fond of her revenge motives. And while I understand that she was having a hard time trusting Robert after she finds out he has a title (she thought he was a mere “Mr.” when they first meet) and even more so when she learns who his father is, I got a little tired of her pushing him away, then falling into his arms only to push again. It just seemed like she kept trying to find a reason to… almost punish him. She’s not trusting her gut but allowing outside influences to mess with her head. And yes, that’s human. But it was driving me insane and I just wanted to reach through the pages and shake Angelica.

All in all, I did enjoy this book and couldn’t put it down once I got started. Was it perfect? No. But it was a great introduction to the Douglas family and I can’t want to continue the series.

Another wonderful book by the author!! All Angelica has wanted for the past 10 years is revenge on the men who ruined her father. While she is scamming people in a dice game she meets Robert Roy. Unbeknownst to her Robert is the son of one of the men she wants revenge on. A wonderful read that has passion, lies, revenge, twists & turns and finally happiness!!

Melissa Pearl was born in Auckland, New Zealand, but has spent much of her life abroad, living in countries such as Jordan, Cyprus and Pakistan... not to mention a nine month road trip around North America with her husband. Excellent Climax to a great trilogy!!!

There are no disillusions in this last book of the series. It is exciting from start to finish as the characters grow in strength and are also beset by complications that stretch loyalties as the truth unfolds. We feel for these young people and their moral dilemma, and for Gabe who has to watch knowing what can happen. There are no spoilers here, there is no need to know more about the action than that the book has a very satisfying ending and that this is definately an author to watch and follow. An excellent finish to what has been a excellent series.

AN UNFORGETTABLE READ!!

Gemma and Harrison enter their final school year with the ever increasing possibility that Gemma's parents will discover that Harrison does not only still exist but is also still having a very serious relationship with Gemma. Gemma and Harrison must also find out why Harrison's mother has suddenly turned on Gemma and when they do, Gemma must find a way to turn the situation around. When the exchange student, Simeon, arrives to lodge with Gemma and her family, things are bound to get extremely difficult for her and Harrison.

I was touched by the gentleness and purity of the romantic relationship between Harrison and Gemma, but, can such a lovely relationship outlast the antagonism of Gemma's so-called parents? When multiple lives seem poised on the edge of ruin and an innocent dies, will Gemma be able to make the ultimate sacrifice?

Although I thoroughly enjoyed the first two books in the series, I simply could not put this one down. Apart from the nonstop suspense, this book took me on an emotional roller coaster ride. I went from shouting encouragement and sitting on the edge of my chair with anticipation, to grabbing handfuls of Kleenex. Romance, suspense and truly tear-jerking moments; this book has it all. The brilliantly portrayed characters and the regular dates, given to keep the reader on track, brings a unique realism to the story; something which is very handy in a time travel novel. With never a dull moment in the story, the author kept me guessing right up to the end.

Once again I want to advise readers to get hold of "Golden Blood" and "Black Blood" - the first two books in this trilogy - before reading "Pure Blood". As this is the last book in the Time Spirit Trilogy, I was sad to say good bye to all these characters. "Pure Blood" is more than deserving of 5 stars and I sincerely hope that Melissa Pearl will soon have some more wonderful books for us book-hungry readers to look forward to. (Ellen Fritz)

The final installment in theTime Spirit series does not disappoint

In the first book, Gemma and Harrison fell in love, which greatly angered Gemma's parents. In the second bok, Gemma furthers her abilities as a time spirit, with help from Gabe, her real father. Now, after thwarting her parents' plans to write Harrison out of existance, Gemma must keep her love for Harrison a secret, and maybe save the world along the way.

While the first two books in the series had enough action to keep me interested, this one was a non-stop thrill ride. The suspense builds up quite nicely, which led me to read the entire book in one siting.

All in all, this is the best book in the series. Keep in mind, however; even though you may have predicted how the series ends, the way it is written will leave you satisfied.

Radiology residents needed a book like this.

If you like the Requisites series of texts, this book is for you. Let's face it, the average radiology resident can't wade through Stoller or Berquist and expect to remember much. This book takes musculoskeletal MR and breaks it down into a Requisites-format book of manageable length. Boxes indicating "key points" abound, and the pictures are of high quality. The length is appropriate for an introductory MSK MR rotation.
On the minus side, the book is definitely not an exhaustive reference text. The knee chapter is relatively short, especially given the huge volumes of knee MRs radiologists are seeing. Also, the authors are a bit too opinionated about which sequences to use in some chapters - a more evidence-based and less anecdotal approach to tailoring exams would have been more useful.
Overall, highly recommended for radiology residents who are encountering MSK MR for the first time.

The missing link

This is a very good text especially for the cost.
True to the authors intentions, the text presents practical aspects of interpreting musculoskeletal magnetic resonance studies. The text is perfectly suited to radiology residents, fellows and radiologists interpreting routine mri's. Essential technical information including suggestions for protocols are provided as well as an organized approach to interpretation.
I liked the sequence of normal descriptions immediately followed by associated pathology. There were sufficient images of excellent quality. Illustrations and diagrams are well thought out and "boxes" with core information are also present for those of us who just want the essential list! Definitely an easily read text. One should realize that this, however, is not a reference text! A musculoskeletal radiologist or individual with special interest in this area will likely find this too superficial. But the authors intentions are not to replace Resnick or Stoller's excellent reference texts.
Bottom line is I definitely recommend it for the price because it fills the gap between an intro book and the heavy duty texts just as it intends to...it is the missing link.

Great MSK MRI book

This is an excellent book for the following reasons:

-Size of text. This is the perfect size for an introductory text for a resident rotation. Small enough to throw in your backpack.

-Cost. On par with the Requisite series.

-Concise presentation. The text is easily readable for someone who has experience with plain film MSK, and takes time to explain the relevant anatomy when it's important.It goes over the most important topics over each major joint, leaving out the more obscure topics for the larger textbooks.

-Illustrations and images. Illustration are simple black-and-white drawings, which are much more effective than some texts that borrow illustrations, which are often way too busy (poor illustrations of the relevant anatomy). The images range in quality from OK to excellent, but shows normal first and pathology second for comparision. The images are liberally labelled with arrows denoting pathology and normal anatomic structures, which is a mark of an excellent text. I detest texts who present images without pointing out the findings. It's lazy, unhelpful, and sometimes you can't figure out just what the abnormality is! Tree-in-bud? Crazy paving? Pencil-in-cup? Radiology is filled with signs and descriptions, some of which are ridiculously or poorly named. Unfortunately your stuck learning them, and nothing is more infuriating than reading through a topic like arthritis with unmarked images showing subtle findings like "erosions" without clearly illustrated images.

This book is worth the asking price. MSK MRI is a rotation most residents don't receive until their 3rd/4th year, and it's the quickest way to hit the ground running.

About the Author
Frank H. Netter was born in New York City in 1906. He studied art at the Art Students League and the National Academy of Design before entering medical school at New York University, where he received his Doctor of Medicine degree in 1931. During his student years, Dr. Netter’s notebook sketches attracted the attention of the medical faculty and other physicians, allowing him to augment his income by illustrating articles and textbooks. He continued illustrating as a sideline after establishing a surgical practice in 1933, but he ultimately opted to give up his practice in favor of a full-time commitment to art. After service in the United States Army during World War II, Dr. Netter began his long collaboration with the CIBA Pharmaceutical Company (now Novartis Pharmaceuticals). This 45-year partnership resulted in the production of the extraordinary collection of medical art so familiar to physicians and other medical professionals worldwide.
Icon Learning Systems acquired the Netter Collection in July 2000 and continued to update Dr. Netter’s original paintings and to add newly commissioned paintings by artists trained in the style of Dr. Netter. In 2005, Elsevier Inc. purchased the Netter Collection and all publications from Icon Learning Systems. There are now over 50 publications featuring the art of Dr. Netter available through Elsevier Inc.
Dr. Netter’s works are among the finest examples of the use of illustration in the teaching of medical concepts. The 13-book Netter Collection of Medical Illustrations, which includes the greater part of the more than 20,000 paintings created by Dr. Netter, became and remains one of the most famous medical works ever published. The Netter Atlas of Human Anatomy, first published in 1989, presents the anatomic paintings from the Netter Collection. Now translated into 16 languages, it is the anatomy atlas of choice among medical and health professions students the world over.
The Netter illustrations are appreciated not only for their aesthetic qualities, but, more importantly, for their intellectual content. As Dr. Netter wrote in 1949 “clarification of a subject is the aim and goal of illustration. No matter how beautifully painted, how delicately and subtly rendered a subject may be, it is of little value as a medical illustration if it does not serve to make clear some medical point.” Dr. Netter’s planning, conception, point of view, and approach are what inform his paintings and what make them so intellectually valuable.
Frank H. Netter, MD, physician and artist, died in 1991.

A fantastic additon to the series, a must read

Shadow's Edge by Brent Weeks is the second book in the Night Angel Trilogy. The first novel is titled The Way of Shadows (The Night Angel Trilogy) with the third being titled Beyond the Shadows (The Night Angel Trilogy). After reading the first book in this trilogy, I was both excited and nervous to read this book. Excited because the first novel was one of the best books I have read in long time, I loved ever word of it. Nervous, because I as concerned that Mr. Weeks would not be able to catch lightening in a bottle twice. Could he possibly live up to the greatness that was book one? There is also the trend in some trilogies that that the second book is merely a bridge novel to further the story without much substance behind it. Here are my thoughts on this novel.

The plot of this novel picks up where the first novel ends. Kylar Stern has done enough killing and wants to walk away from the wetboy business. He goes to extraordinary steps to get away from everything and renounce his one time profession. What, if anything, could get him to once again pick up that life he tried so desperately to put behind him? This novel is also riddled with sub plots that make this book, and world, come to life. Some of the sub plots include, Logan Gyre was left in the ultimate prison cell with societies worst criminals at the end of book one. Does he survive the battle with losing his sanity, and battling the other people in the cell? The prophet Dorian can see the future. However, seeing the possibilities of the future leave him teetering on the edge of sanity. There is also the sub plot of the Godking and what his rule means to the country. There are several other sub plots, but in the interest of space and not wanting to spoil anything I will stop there. Suffice to say that, while book one was a sprint into the realm on an assassin and occurred at break neck speed, this book has a slightly less frantic pace. However, the slight slow down does nothing to affect the plot or book. The story is a masterwork of pacing, and it is obvious that Mr. Weeks put a great deal of thought into not only each book, but how the overall plot meshes together. I can not really put into words how good the storyline is in this book. It is a story that is easy to get caught up in and one that you want to read just one more page before you go to bed. Only to realize that it is four in the morning. To me a book that can capture a reader like that is a rare thing, and so far, Mr. Weeks is two for two on that.

The characters in this book are largely the ones from the first novel. Characters such as; Kylar, Logan, Vi, Momma K, Jarl, Elene, and Garoth. This, of course, is just a small sample of the characters in this novel. There are a lot of characters in this novel. However, unlike other novels with a lot of characters, I never once felt like a character was lost or pushed to the side. In fact, I think each character was written near flawlessly. There is a great deal of character development in this novel, actually more than what I thought would be present. The thing that surprised me were the number of characters that were developed to a significant extent. In most books, significant character development is usually reserved to one or two characters. In this book, there are no less than half a dozen characters that receive significant development. This makes the book feel much more rich and vibrant, and it is very easy to connect with this wide assortment of characters. At no time did the characters feel like they were being dragged through the plot, it actually felt like they were creating the plot and influencing events. This is something I can not say about several books I have read. I really enjoyed the characters and the vibrant nature in which they were written.

I have one very minor criticism about this novel:

There are several places throughout the novel where the copy editing was off. There are missing word that snap the reader out of the experience to figure out what word is missing. It's not a big deal, but when a book flows this smoothly, those things are easy to notice.

1 - The depth of the plot and sub plots. It is rich, vibrant, and has enough twists that the reader is never allowed to get comfortable with what they think will happen. I enjoy being surprised while I am reading, and I was surprised several times in this novel.

2 - Just like the first novel, this novel doesn't hold any punches. Some authors become too attached to their characters and never kill any of them. That is not the case with this book, or series. If a characters death will benefit the story, Mr. Weeks is not afraid to kill them. It's refreshing and makes the books that much more interesting to read.

3 - For a new author, Mr. Weeks prose is very refined, fluid, and expressive. Mr. Weeks writing is very easy to read, but at the same time it is an adult novel. If you are looking for a feel good story with flowery language, this is most certainly not the book for you.

When all is said and done, I really enjoyed this novel. This book, and series, gives me renewed hope that the fantasy genre still has new and fresh ideas to offer to its readers. With the first two books in this trilogy, Mr. Weeks has announced himself to the fantasy genre as a name to watch. Usually when I read a series I try to take a break in between novels to read something different. That will not be the case with this series. I will be starting the third and final book immediately as I must know what happens. The degree to which Mr. Weeks has been able to get me connected with the characters is amazing; I can not even guess what will happen next. This is certainly a series that fantasy fans should read, it has something for everyone. I would even hazard a guess and say that people who usually don't read fantasy novels may enjoy this one as well. I know this series will be very high on my recommendation list for a long time to come. Do yourself a favor and check this one out.

Brutal Fantasy (Spoiler Free Review)

The Shadow's Edge is the second book of the Night Angel Trilogy. The trilogy focuses on assassins in a fantasy realm. However, the assassins must rely mostly on martial arts, stealth, poisons, and weapons, rather than spells. This book has much more magic than the first book and some fantasy creatures are introduced. The second book takes place in Cenaria during a Khalidoran invasion. Throughout the book there's action, political intrigue, and character development. There's also a good bit of death. No character is safe. If I had to make a comparison, it's fairly close to George RR Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire.

Plot
The story continues with Kylar Stern, Jarl, Logan, Elene, Vi, Hu, Momma K, and the most vile loathsome Godking ever written. This guy makes King Xerxes look like Willy Wonka. The plot deals with the invasion. The story is epic and defines the boundaries of the human spirit.

Characters
The characters in this book are excellent. The author, Brent Weeks, does a great job at making sure they read like real people with real emotions. The story is full of characters that you'll love and despise.

Writing Style
The writing style is pretty accessible to just about anyone. It's pretty simple. The action scenes are also well written and easy to visualize. The Chapters are about ten pages long, and you'll find yourself reading five to ten Chapters per sitting. In the 600 pages, there are a few nonsensical sentences. But these are easy to overlook because the story and characters are great.

Dialogue
The dialogue does a great job at portraying the relationships between the characters. Brent Weeks also writes what the characters are thinking as they are speaking. It becomes clear that some characters say things to further their own selfish goals or try to dominate others. Some of the dialogue feels like modern day slang, and seemed out of place, but this is easy to overlook.

Maturity
This book is for adults who like a dark element to fantasy. There is violence, gore, sex, cannibalism, murder, and rape. It's Rated R to X and seems more horrific than fantastic.

If you want to read a brutal epic adventure, and don't mind anachronistic dialogue, this is for you! If you're a fan of GRRM and you're tired of waiting for his next book, you will most likely enjoy this one. Don't let the 600 pages deter you, the story moves fast and something interesting happens every few pages. Like the first book, it's very good.

Warning: This book is very brutal! Avoid it if you don't want your imagination going to very dark places. Characters get physically and mentally broken. It's not a pretty sight!

The Battle continues!

Kyler Stern has settled down to a life of comfortable domesticity...at least he's trying; however the synchronicities of life conspire to pull him back into his darker avatar of the Night Angel (sort of a cross between Jet Li and the Shadow) to seek justice, right wrongs and just beat up bad guys in general.

"Shadows Edge" by newcomer Brent Weeks is as much fun as the first in the Night Angel trilogy "Way of Shadows". In the first novel Azoth/Kyler is being trained (by his teacher Durzo Blint) as a Wetboy, sort of a super assassin. In this novel Kyler has rejected the life of a professional killer but cannot fully accept the life that his fianc� wants for him, that of a budding herbalist. In a way, this is the coming of age of a young Kyler Stern. The novel does an admirable job of describing that time in most of our lives when we are forced to create of ourselves a new person; an amalgam of the person that our parents, teachers and mentors want us to be and the person that we ourselves wish to be as well the person that destiny has chosen for us. All change is difficult, especially when it requires that we may disappoint the people that we love the most, and this is the case for a young Kyler Stern. We see Kyler struggle with opposing sides of his nature in an attempt to be true to himself but keep the love and acceptance he has struggled for his whole life.

An emaciated but much wiser King Logan Gyre has escaped prison and taken his place at the head of an army to fight the Godking. This is a story of honor, war and redemption as the young characters from the first novel are all forged in the heat of despair to create the men and women that the realm needs in order to defeat tyranny.

As other reviewers have mentioned, there are a lot of story lines here but I did not find myself bogging down with them and in fact enjoyed the fleshing out of the trilogy. I highly recommend "Shadows Edge" and will be the first in line at the end of this month for my copy of "Beyond the Shadows", the conclusion of the Night Angel trilogy.
